As for C. hero, P.
mnemosyne was a very local but often abundant species in forest meadows on the
island of Sealand (Sjælland). It was last seen in
1961. The reasons for the extinction are mainly drainage, planting of
spruce (Picea abies) in forest meadows and lack
of grazing by horses or cattle.
